New Delhi: Quarter-time record holder Mohamed Anas will not compete in the 400m individual at the Doha International Championships from September 27 despite having a qualifying mark on the event.
Anas surpassed 45.30 in the World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic on July 13 with a time of 45.21, while also surpassing his previous record (45.24).
But the Indian Athletics Federation did not meet the name of the 25-year-old Kerala athlete as the individual 400m at the World Cup, opting to only add to the 4x400m relay and rex 4x400m relay.
The IAAF World Cup on Thursday released a short list of athletes, wise men of the country as well as popular events and Anas' name for the men's 4x400m relay, not just the 400m individual.
Under the IAAF rules, not every athlete can be included now. Only a revocation of the names already entered can be made by the coaches shortly before the League.
We went to Anas individually for 400m and we thought he could help the country better with a 4x400m relay and a 4x400m relay. We have a better chance of dealing with relays, especially with the combination of the 4x400m relay, told PTI on the secret situation.
Anas, however, said he was unaware that he would not compete in the individual 400m individual.
We don't know about that (not the individual 400m). I have to check with AFI or the coaches, ”Anas said of his training center in Europe.
AFI is especially looking forward to reaching the final of the 4x400m relay event despite being ruled out by Hima Das as the top eight finals will automatically receive the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
